It was reported yesterday that Cardinals ace and club leader, Adam Wainwright left the Spring Training complex. While the diagnosis of the injury is yet to be announced. It was reported that Wainwright was experiencing abdominal pain.
While it would be too soon to assume that Wainwright has a sports hernia, he has left the facility to see a specialist. The organization and Wainwright should know the results of the diagnosis by Thursday. The concern in the front-office was given a ‘medium level’ from comments made from GM John Mozeliak.
In the offseason, the ace underwent minor arm surgery, leaving the club to be cautious with their club-leader. It was reported earlier that the Cardinals plan to limit Wainwright’s workload in Spring Training and there is much speculation that he will be given additional rest during the regular season.
Yet the ace was quick to share his arm feels great and that there is no concern on that end moving forward.
If the injury turns out to be serious then expect trade rumors that ran rampant throughout the offseason to be brought back to life. Cole Hamels and Cliff Lee are both made available by the Phillies and the Cardinals have the players to get either one of them. But, the team will first look to in-house solutions of Jaime Garcia, Marco Gonzales, Tyler Lyons or even Carlos Villanueva if the injury is moderate.
