Lindenwood proved to be too much for the Billikens to handle as they drop this afternoons game with the final score of 5-2.
The first period consisted of some tough physical play from both sides. The Lions peppered the Billikens early out-shooting the Bills 15-7. After two backdoor saves from goalie Tyler Stewart, the Billikens Adam Dettenmeier had a great chance on a two on one with Andrew Greene. Lindenwood goalie Tim Craig came up big to keep the score 0-0 after one period of play.
The Second period was a scoring frenzy. It started off with Billikens right winger Adam Dettenmeier. The play began with Andrew Greene grinding it out in the corner. Greene got the puck back to Matt Latham. After a slick pass across ice, Dettenmeier slammed it home on the one-timer. The Lions countered with Erik Boning and Kyle Vesling scoring the next two goals, making it 2-1. After some 4 on 4 play, Curran Eigelberger forced a turnover in the offensive end. Isaac Rider sauced it back to Niall Caparon who sniped it top shelf from the slot. However, the Billikens fell into old habits and were on the penalty kill for the majority of the second half of the period. Lindenwood capitalized with goals from Kyle Vesling to make it 4-2 at the end of the second period.
The third period began with the Billikens on the power play. Lindenwood’s penalty kill proved to be too much as they stopped the Billikens in the beginning of the period, and later on. Lions goalie Tim Craig was hacking away at the Billikens in front of the net and received a double-minor for slashing. The Billikens could not capitalize on their four minute power play.
Tyler Stewart played well again stopping 40 of 45 shots against the relentless offense of Lindenwood. With Caparon scoring tonight, he is now tied with Curran Eilelberger on the team in pts with 28.
