Today John Smoltz joined Randy Johnson, Pedro Martinez and Craig Biggio as selections for the Hall of Fame. Smoltz played in the MLB for 21 seasons and made his appearance in 1988 with the Atlanta Braves, the team he spent 20 of those seasons with.

Smoltz finished his career with the St. Louis Cardinals after being designated for assignment by the Red Sox earlier in the 2009 season. Smoltz went 1-3 with an ERA of 4.26 in seven games with the Birds. He would  pitch in Game 3 of the NLDS in relief that season at the age of 42.

Smoltz was a dominate starter for Atlanta during their run in the 90s, helping the team return to a World Series in 1991. “Marmaduke” was part of the game 7 duel against Jack Morris . He would end up throwing 7.1 scoreless innings while the Braves would go on to lose the game in the 10th inning. For his career, he went 213-155, 3.33 ERA, 3084 strikeouts. During his time as a reliever Smoltz managed to save 154 games, raking up a NL best at the time, 55 saves in 2002. He was selected to the All-Star team 8 times and was the NL Cy Young winner in 1996.
