The St. Louis Cardinals announced this evening that they did not tender a 2015 contract offer to infielder Daniel Descalso and he thus becomes a free-agent.
Descalso, 28, was drafted by the Cardinals in 2007 and he batted .243 with 10 HR’s and 111 RBI in 529 games over five seasons (2010-14). The left-handed hitting Descalso was a member of the Cardinals 2011 World Championship team and he appeared in 44 career postseason games with St. Louis.
The Cardinals signed left-handed hitting free-agent infielder Dean Anna last month and they also acquired switch-hitting infielder Ty Kelly from the Seattle Mariners in a late November trade.
St. Louis’ 40-man Major League roster currently stands at 37. The Cardinals announced the signing of free-agent right-handed reliever Matt Belisle earlier today.
