Home Baseball Player To Trade For, Part Five.

Player To Trade For, Part Five.

by Doug Vollet

Instead of naming a fifth player to trade for, I’m going to set some guidelines and then open it up for you readers to give suggestions.

This is a bit of an experiment. If this works, I’ll do more like this in the future. If not, you’ll never see the likes of it again.

The guidelines:

We need another outfielder, particularly someone who plays right field well, to add depth and help ease Randall Grichuk into a regular role.

My preference is to acquire someone who’s been around a bit, is at least semi-vocal so he can speak up and be a leader. Plus, the higher up the ladder he is age wise, the fewer players we’d have to trade to acquire him.

No former DH’s. I want guys who can move at least three feet to either side.

No free agents, obviously.

Those are the rules, let me hear you!

Easy one. Start with Nick Markakis. He has no QO and can be gotten. In my mind, he’s the perfect complimentary piece to the team AND he has an awful lot of Matt Carpenter in him. He’s gritty, he’s won a Gold Glove (although criticized heavily for it), and he hits well vs LHP or RHP.
