Home Baseball Players To Trade For Part Four

Players To Trade For Part Four

by Doug Vollet

Heyya folks. Sorry it’s been a while, been busy. I’ll work towards getting back on here two or three times a week at least.

The fourth player I’d like to acquire, if you couldn’t tell from the picture above, is Ben Zobrist.

We need bench depth badly, moreso now after the tragic loss of Oscar Taveras.

Zobrist fits that role nicely. He can play the two middle infield spots, as well as all of the outfield positions. He’s even played first base in his distant past (2010).

In addition to that flexibility, he’s a solid hitter. Last year he hit .272 with a .354 OBP. Good numbers for a bench player.

Not that he’d sit much. As I mentioned, he’s flexible. Last year he started at least seven games at five different positions, as well as starting seven games at DH to boot. All of that jumping around netted him 654 plate appearances. He wouldn’t get that many here, but 300 to 500 is a realistic possibility because combined with his mobility he’d also be a good pinch hitter off the bench when he isn’t starting.

Given that he’s no longer a spring chicken at 33, he wouldn’t cost us as many prospects as, say, a 25 year old player who could do all of the things Zobrist can.

So Zobrist is number four. One more to go…

As always, thanks for reading.
