Home Baseball Players To Trade For Part Three

Players To Trade For Part Three

by Doug Vollet

First a moment of silence for Oscar (bows head)

Now another quick little post about a possible player to seek out.

Now, while that tragic event affects outfield picture a bit, there was one thing we needed even before that happened: More bullpen depth. Even if we re-sign Pat Neshek, we could still use more dynamic arms in the ‘pen.

One arm I’ve happened to spot is Chris Hatcher in Miami. He’s a relatively unknown power arm who just had his first full season for the Marlins. Here’s his Brooks Baseball profile.

Nice looking eh? And given the fact that he’s 29, he won’t cost as much as that “new prospect” shine has worn off a little bit. Think of him as a car, maybe a 2012 Camero: Still a very nice car that runs well, but given that it’s a few years old, it won’t cost as much.

Miami is also set at closer with Steve Cishek, and Hatcher’s 3.38 ERA was admittedly the highest ERA in the bullpen, but as I said, it was his first full season. Chris has a dynamic arm, and given his age, I think we might be able to steal him from the Marlins. He’d fit nicely in our ‘pen, even if we kept Neshek. After all, you can never have too many power arms, just ask Kansas City.

Hope I didn’t put you to sleep with my extreme verbosity. 😉

As always, thanks for reading.

The Cardinals are not in need of pitching. They need to build up their bench.
