We’ve all had them. Those really looooooong days at work that you think will never end. Those days when you have to stay late for meetings, things are constantly going not exactly the right way, when you can’t seem to get out of the place for the life of you. I’ve had one of those days. So, tonight, I was excited when I finally got home, to turn on some Cardinals’ baseball and revel in what should have been a win against the never-mighty Cubs. Well, that didn’t happen. Again. For the second night in a row.
The Cards could have made some headway in FINALLY winning the NL Central, with the Pirates losing to Atlanta 6-2. With the boys down 3-1 in the top of the ninth at Wrigley, Peralta getting a kind of base hit, and Yadi following that up with another base hit, and Taveras swinging for the fences, my belief that this team could possibly pull out another crazy win came to the surface. Then, Oscar grounded out. Alas, this team continues to keep us on the edge of our seat.
As members of the Cardinal Faithful, we know, we just know, these boys just like to keep us excited. I mean, what’s a win over the Cubs? (Yes, I’m being facetious.)
This team, this team, lives to bring us to the brink of heart attacks. It’s what they do. Why would they win the NL Central before the last day of the season? With a team full of young talent, veterans who live to lead, and even managers who cling to game-life through the ninth just for that adrenaline rush, what did we expect?
My thoughts tonight are going to be short and sweet (just the way you like them right before nodding off)–these guys, they’re going to pull through, but why would they do it the easy way? They haven’t all season. They haven’t for quite some time. Why would they start now?
I would rather them have those hot bats, those inning ending double plays, those players picked off at first, those diving catches, those home runs, those walk off doubles in the 12th inning just a little bit later (not too much later, just later). I would like to see this team take a hot streak into the playoffs, wouldn’t you?
I believe, you believe, they believe, we all believe–it’s going to happen, the Cardinals are just going to do it in their own sweet time. They just don’t want us to get bored.
As always, Go Cards!
