Saint Louis senior forward Robert Kristo and freshman goalkeeper Sascha Otte have been named the Atlantic 10 Conference men’s soccer Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, the league office announced today.
The pair helped the Billikens to victories against UMKC (2-0 on Sept. 16) and No. 3 Creighton (1-0 on Sept. 20) last week. In polls released on Monday, the Billikens check in at No. 16 at CollegeSoccerNews.com and No. 19 at TopDrawerSoccer.com.
Kristo collects the third A-10 Player of the Week honor in his career after scoring in both contests last week. It was his golden goal in the 94th minute that lifted the Billikens to an overtime win against Creighton in Omaha. Kristo also scored an insurance goal in the victory against UMKC. He is 17th on the Billikens’ all-time scoring list with 74 points (31G, 12A).
Otte, who earns his second A-10 Rookie of the Week nod, did not allow a goal last week. He made four saves in the shutout victory against UMKC and followed with a career-high eight saves in the blanking of Creighton. For the season, Otte sports a 0.85 goals against average and four shutouts.
Saint Louis (6-1) returns to action Saturday night when it hosts Central Arkansas for Homecoming. First whistle is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., and the traditional fireworks display will take place at halftime. The match is part of a doubleheader with the women’s team, which faces Omaha at 4 p.m. One ticket is good for both games.
