Senior Robert Kristo scored three minutes into overtime to propel the 15th-ranked Billikens past No. 3 Creighton 1-0 in men’s soccer action Saturday night at Morrison Stadium. It was the second win for Saint Louis against a ranked opponent this season. The Billikens also defeated No. 5 Louisville two weeks ago.
It was the fourth win in a row for the Billikens, who improve to 6-1 overall. Creighton dips to 5-1-1.
“Obviously, very pleased after this one,” SLU head coach Mike McGinty said. “Creighton is a great team, we knew it was going to be hard. We stuck together and fought hard all night long, and we were rewarded with the win.”
Kristo’s goal, his fourth of the year, came at the 93:54 mark of overtime. He buried a pass fromRaymond Lee for the golden goal.
SLU freshman keeper Sascha Otte made a career high eight saves. It was his fourth shutout of the season.
The Billikens return to Hermann Stadium Saturday, Sept. 27, to face Central Arkansas for Homecoming at 7:30 p.m. The match is part of a doubleheader with the women’s team, which faces Omaha at 4 p.m. The traditional Homecoming fireworks display will occur at halftime of the men’s contest.
