Cards recall LHP Tyler Lyons from Memphis

The St. Louis Cardinals announced prior to tonight’s series opener in Pittsburgh that they have recalled left-handed pitcher Tyler Lyons from Memphis (AAA) and optioned infielder Greg Garcia to Springfield (AA).

Lyons, 26, is making his third appearance with the Cardinals this season. He is 0-3 with a 5.46 ERA in seven games (four starts) for St. Louis this season. Lyons has compiled an 8-2 mark with a 4.43 ERA in 14 starts for Memphis, including a six-game win streak from July 18 to August 14.

Lyons walked just 18 batters in his 81.1 innings pitched for the Memphis Redbirds and struck out 75. His last appearance came in a start on Aug. 19 at El Paso when he worked 6.0 IP.

Garcia has appeared in nine games for the Cardinals this season, collecting a pair of hits in 12 at-bats.

Lyons wears uniform # 70.
