Chris McKinney, head coach of the St. Louis Attack, has been named 2014 X-League Coach of the Year.

The recognition comes as little surprise, as McKinney led the Attack to an undefeated regular season and clinched an X-Bowl berth back in April.

“I am honored to win this award in my first year with the Attack,” said McKinney. “I have to give a lot of credit to my coaching staff and players. We came together this year and jelled to become a great family.”

McKinney was actually a late addition to the Attack coaching staff, coming in with less than a month of preparation before the regular season was scheduled to kickoff. He replaced the local Pat Pimmel, who was a last minute scratch due to his conflicting schedule for the 2014 season.

Under McKinney’s tutelage, the Attack sported nine All X-League players, including recently unretired local semi-pro quarterback Mike McMullen, who led the league with 20 touchdown passes.

The next hurdle for the McKinney-led Attack will be in the form of the X-League Championship, which will be played at the Family Arena on Saturday, June 14th.
