Junior first baseman Mike Vigliarolo hit his sixth home run of the season as the Billikens defeated George Mason 4-3. Nick Bates (5-1) earned the win and freshman Brett Shimanovsy picked up the first save of his SLU career. Saint Louis is now 24-16 overall and 12-4 in conference games.
The Bills had a big first inning to take an early lead. Vigliarolo hit his two-run home run to open scoring. Jake Henson ripped an RBI single to right and bring the Saint Louis lead to 3-0.
The Patriots scored in the fifth and sixth to cut the SLU lead to 3-2.
In the seventh, Danny Brennan an RBI single to center. Mason responded with a run of its own in the bottom of the frame to keep the Billiken lead at one.
Shimanovsky got three straight fly outs to center field in the ninth to seal the win for the Bills.
Both Brennan and Braxton Martinez recorded their ninth multiple-hit games of the season. Brennan was 2-3 against George Mason with a run, RBI and stolen base. Martinez was 2-4 with a run scored.
