Fordham rallied in the seventh inning for a 4-3 victory over Saint Louis in game one of an Atlantic 10 Conference doubleheader Thursday afternoon at Bahoshy Field.
Fordham won game two 5-0.
Saint Louis (20-18, 6-5 A-10) took a 1-0 lead in the third inning of the opener. Kelsey Biggs reached on an error with two outs and scored on a double by Brianna Lore.
Fordham (27-16, 7-1 A-10) went on top 2-1 in the fourth, but SLU answered with two runs in the fifth to regain the upper hand.
Alex Nickel ignited the rally with a leadoff single and was forced at second on Ellie Huffman’s ground ball. Lindsay Friedman’s double plated pinch runner Katie Kroeger, and Biggs delivered a single that scored Friedman to make it 3-2 Billikens.
But Fordham pulled even with an unearned run in the bottom of the fifth, and Sydney Canessa’s triple drove home Cora Ianiro – who had singled with two outs – with the winning run in the seventh.
Friedman added a single for a 2-for-4 showing, and Mackenzie Peter chipped in a single. Lore (16-11) allowed three earned runs, seven hits and two walks while striking out two.
In the nightcap, singles by Nickel and Elizabeth Everingham were the only hits the Billikens recorded.
SLU’s best scoring chance came in the first inning when the Bills loaded the bases on walks to Huffman, Friedman and Lore. But Fordham hurler Lauren Quense worked out of the jam.
The Rams scored a run in the second, two in the third, one in the fourth and one in the fifth.
Laney Kneib (4-7) shouldered the loss for the Billikens, who host Southeast Missouri State in a doubleheader Wednesday, April 23. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
