Sophomore Josh Moore allowed six baserunners in 7.2 IP to lead the Billikens to a 2-1 win over Massachusetts. With the win, SLU rises to 20-13 overall and 8-3 in Atlantic 10 Conference games. Matt Eckelman (4-1) gets the win in extra innings.
The game in Amherst was a pitchers’ duel, with neither team able to score for the first seven innings. The Billikens plated the game’s first run in the eighth on an RBI single from Danny Murphy, scoring Michael Bozarth from third. However, the Minutemen answered in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at one through eight innings.
Both teams were held scoreless in the ninth, sending Saint Louis to extra innings for the fourth time this season.
In the 11th, Josh Bunselmeyer came to the plate with runners and first and second with one away. He laced a single to center field, allowing Jake Henson to score from second and give SLU a 2-1 lead over UMass. In the bottom of the frame, Eckelman set UMass down in order to seal the Billiken victory.
Moore turned in a solid outing, going 7.2 innings with five hits, eight strikeouts and one walk.
At the plate, Martinez was 3-4 and Danny Mannion was 3-5.
