St. Charles tied the score at on a goal from Justin Levac in the first few minutes of the third period and Chill goalie Linus Lundin held the score at 3-3 until Brampton picked up a shootout win on the final shot of the night by a final of 4-3.
Brampton (26-21-5) got on the scoreboard first at the 6:11 mark on the second goal of the season from defenseman Dan Milan but the Chill would respond on the power play against one of the top penalty kill units in the CHL. Martin Hlinka scored his tenth as Nick Lindberg and Dan Weiss set him up with St. Charles (10-36-5) on a quick 5-on-3 power play to even the score at 1-1 midway through the opening period. The score would stand through the first intermission.
It was back and forth to start the second period before the Beast took back the lead at 2-1 midway through on the 15th goal from Matt Caruana, and extended it to 3-1just under four minutes later with a power play goal from Tyler Michel. The Chill would not back down. Lindberg closed the score to 3-2 with four second left in the period with a power play goal on assists from Hlinka and John Snowden that would give the Chill the momentum heading to the locker rooms.
The Chill rode that momentum to start the final period with Charles Lachance and Nick Schneider setting up rookie Justin Levac for the second of his career just 2:10 in to tie the game at 3-3. Chill goalie Linus Lundin would hold off the Beast down the stretch and the two teams would head to overtime.
After a scoreless overtime period the game shifted to a five-player shootout where Kyle O’Kane scored for the Chill but Calin Wild, the final skater for Brampton, gave the Beast a 4-3 shootout win.
St. Charles plays the final game of a three-game series in Brampton Sunday afternoon at 1:00 CST before returning to the Family Arena February 28th for Brett Hull Night and Mascot Madness with a specialty jersey auction.
