This was a big win. The captain led the way. St. Charles scored four power play goals, two from skipper Jordan Fox, and got some outstanding goaltending from Robby Moss en-route to a 5-3 win over the cross-state rival Missouri Mavericks.
After the heartbreaking loss on Friday night to the Mavs, the Chill were all heart on Saturday in dominating Missouri (10-3-0) despite falling behind in the first period. St. Charles (3-9-2) controlled the action from the start but one defensive miscue led to a two-on-none and a 1-0 lead for the Mavericks on the goal from Sebastian Thinel.
Just as the second period got underway the Chill were handed a five minute power play when Colton Hayes kneed David Strathman and was given a game misconduct. Strathman would not return for the Chill but St. Charles took advantage. Steve Makway tied the score at 1-1 with the first of three Chill goals during the five minute man-advantage when his snap shot bounced off the end boards, off the back of goalie Shane Owen, and into the net. 48 seconds later Fox ripped a shot from just inside the blue line that found the top of the net to give the Chill their first lead at 2-1 and less than two minutes later Martin Hlinka lit the lamp to push the lead to 3-1 after getting the helper from Andrew Conboy and Dan Weiss who both had the assists in Fox’s first goal. Kyle O’Kane scored the fourth goal of the period to make it 4-1 at the 13:06 mark on a great set up by Tony DeHart and Anthony. St. Charles kept on rolling in the third.
Less than two minutes into the third Fox stretched the Chill lead to 5-1 on another blast from the blue line on the power play as Weiss dished out his third assist of the night. The Mavericks pulled their goalie in the final minutes of the game and the Chill had to hang on as Missouri put two in the net in the final two minutes for the final score of 5-3.
