Texas Rangers outfielder Joey Butler has been claimed on waivers by the St. Louis Cardinals after being designated for assignment by the club on Monday.  Victor Marte was designated for assignment to make room for Butler on the 40 man roster.

Butler, 27, made his major league debut with the Rangers this season, batting .333 with two doubles and an RBI. He spent the rest of the year with Triple-A Round Rock, batting .291 with 12 home runs and 51 RBIs.

In three seasons in AAA, he has a career .300/.392/.468 line.
