As frustrated as all you other blues fans of the past couple decades and beyond, it just feels the time is finally approaching for a serious run at Lord Stanley’s Cup. Why will this season be any different from the rest you ask? Goaltending and coaching will be the backbone of the team. Jaroslav Halak is appearing to be in the best shape of his career and a healthy Halak, means a strong productive Brian Elliot. Love Elliot when he is on, but when he is off of his game watching him play is more frustrating that Talking to a Red Wings or Bama fan for me. Yeah we get it, Championships. Must be nice right. Luckily St. Louis has baseball and its beloved Cardinals to take away some of these frustrations.
Here is why i believe the Blues will finally push into later rounds in the playoffs this season. Two solid years of playing hard and getting beat can push the great talents in the league over the cusp. We have good young talent on the wings in Schwartz and Tarasenko to go along with playmakers like Oshi and Roy. The blueline is as solid as you could want pending the signing of Pietrangelo, the defense is young quick strong and smart. Jackman can be frustrating but brings a veteran and toughness element the is absolutely necessary.
Expect to see players like Rattie and Jaskin playing at some point this season barring an injury to any scoring forward. I am very excited about these two guys to go along with Schwartz and Tarasenko in the coming years. we should see at least one pure scorer evolve out of these guys possibly three.
The next Decade could be just as frustrating for us blues fans, but i do believe this will be the best team talent wise over the next 4-5 years that we have seen since the Turgeon, Courtnall, Hull, Macinnis days.
