While the Cardinals had a much needed day off before they face off against Pittsburgh this weekend, the Rams held tough to beat the defending Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens last night. This was the final preseason game before the regular season kicks off, and the Rams were able to avoid a winless preseason with a 24-21 win. In a sloppy on all counts performance, it seemed that both teams were just looking to exercise some 3rd and 4th string players while keeping everyone healthy at the end of the day. QB Kellen Clemens started the game and completed 13 out of 18 attempts for a total of 188 yards, and Austin Davis came in late to complete 6 out of 13 pass attempts for a total of 50 yards, throwing 2 touchdowns in the 4th quarter to clinch the win. The Rams open their season at home on September 8 against the Arizona Cardinals.
In some breaking news, the Cardinals have reportedly acquired righty reliever John Axford from the Brewers for a player to be named later. His 2013 numbers indicate a 4.45 ERA and a -.4 WAR, but he did lead the NL in saves in 2011. Rumor has it he will wear No. 34 and it will be interesting to see how he fits into the Cardinal bullpen.
