Good morning and sorry for the delay this morning – those pesky desk jobs really tend to get in the way sometimes! Here is your daily dish…
We all most likely stopped watching at various points during last night’s battering. I for one had to flip back and forth to Family Guy to keep my spirits up. There is nothing that I hate seeing more than a struggling pitcher, and a struggling ace at that. Adam Wainwright certainly did not seem like himself last night, and the numbers quickly stacked up against him after only two innings. After giving up nine runs in two innings, Wainwright was lifted and replaced by Michael Wacha, who put in a fine performance, pitching four shut out innings with only three hits and seven Ks.
Coming off of a complete game victory against the Braves, Wainwright struggled mightily with location early on. I speculated on the effect Yadier Molina’s absence had and the possible communication between Rob Johnson and Wainwright, but those speculations quickly quieted as it seemed that Wainwright simply did not have his stuff. His post game comments at least eased our minds that he was not injured, “You’d like to say you had something to learn in every game. Today is just something I’m going to forget about. The next start, I’ll be fine.”
The Redbirds will get a day off today and will head to Pittsburgh half a game on top of the NL Central for the weekend series.
