Happy Hump Day, St. Louis! Everyone is still buzzing over the red-hot Cardinals, and for good reason as the Birds continue to throw down decisive wins and excellent defense.
Joe Kelly added another successful notch to his belt last night, working a solid 6 innings and allowing 1 run on 8 hits by the Reds. He has now improved to 6-3 and has further solidified himself as a qualified choice for the rotation spot that now seems to be his to keep.
Matt Holliday had a rough night at the plate, getting clobbered by three times, but still extended his hit streak to seven games and driving in another run before leaving the game for pinch runner Shane Robinson.
Tyler Lyons has been sent back to Memphis and replaced by Fernando Salas as a bullpen boost. Lyons is eligible to rejoin the team this week and will likely still get the start on September 3 against the Reds.
Adam Wainwright will take the mound tonight against Homer Bailey at 7:15 pm, with the Cardinals eyeing another sweep. Now 1.5 games ahead of Pittsburgh, the Redbirds will be looking to extend that lead before heading to face the Buccos this weekend.
Phase one of the fabled Ballpark Village is now complete, as all structural steel work has been completed. Ballpark Village, which is rumored to be modeled after Kansas City’s Power and Light District, is slated to open its doors on Opening Day 2014. Expect official tenant announcements to be forthcoming in the next few months.
The Super Bowl Champion Baltimore Ravens will be in town tomorrow evening for the Rams’ final preseason matchup before regular season play begins. This will be the last chance for those on the bubble to make a name for themselves, so be on the lookout for more roster moves before the 5 pm Saturday roster deadline.
