Daily Roundup

by Sally Spickard

Good morning and welcome to Arch City’s newest venture – a daily roundup of happenings around our fine city. Here you will find some tidbits on game results, transactions, or other relevant news from the previous day. So while you are enjoying your coffee or other energy infused beverage, please enjoy the first ever edition of Arch City’s Daily Roundup.

The Cardinals entered Sunday’s game against the Braves eyeing a 4 game sweep, having made a real statement about their thoughts regarding October quite clear throughout the first three games of the series. It was not meant to be, however, with Lance Lynn allowing 4 runs on 9 hits during 7 innings of work and the Cardinal offense not able to produce effectively off of 8 hits. The Redbirds will be looking to continue putting the heat on Pittsburgh, with whom they have drawn even with after the Bucco’s less than successful trip to San Francisco.

After leading the Broncos 20-10 at the half, the Rams managed only 6 more points on a Zach Potter TD in the 4th quarter to answer Denver’s 2nd half 17. After a failed 2 point conversion attempt, the Bronocs went on to win the decision 27-26. Sam Bradford went 9/16 for 110 yards. The Rams will conclude their preseason against Joe Flacco and the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday.

In some breaking news, 3-star runningback Trevon Walters from Bradenton, FL, has committed to Mizzou, according to Derek Tyson of ESPN. More on this as it develops..

In case you haven’t heard, Missouri football head coach Gary Pinkel has officially (not too surprisingly) announced senior James Franklin as this year’s returning  starting quarterback, getting the call over challenging redshirt freshman Maty Mauk. Not much of a surprise there, and I know we will all be anxious to see how Mizzou fares in their second SEC season after a lackluster year in 2012. Plagued by injuries in 2012, notably a concussion in the 4th quarter of the Syracuse game that put an end to his season. Franklin will be looking to regain the attention he received as a sophomore, when he tallied up a whopping 3,846 yards of total offense.
