The St. Louis Cardinals announced today they have placed outfielder Marcell Ozuna on the 10-day disabled list with right shoulder inflammation, Yairo Muñoz was activated from the 10-day disabled list, first baseman Matt Adams was activated after spending the last 24 hours in-transit following a waiver claim, and right-handed pitcher Daniel Poncedeleon was optioned to Memphis (AAA).

Ozuna, 27, had played in the last 73 straight games with the Cardinals and is batting .279 with 16 home runs and 69 RBI over a team-high 123 games this season for the Cardinals.  Last night, Ozuna was 2-for-4 and hit his 16th home run of the season.  He will be eligible to return from the disabled list on September 1.

Muñoz, 23, has been activated after a right wrist sprain occurred in Kansas City on August 10 and caused him to miss 11 games.  The infielder/outfielder started 51 games at five different positions for the Cardinals this season and is batting .284 with six home runs and 31 RBI.  He recently played two injury rehabilitation games in Springfield (AA) before joining the team in Los Angeles.

Adams, 29, was claimed off waivers from the Washington Nationals yesterday.  The former Cardinals slugger was batting .257 with 18 home runs and 48 RBI for the Nationals and was in-transit from Washington D.C., in the last 24 hours.

Poncedeleon, 26, started last night’s game for the Cardinals and threw 4.0 innings allowing one run and struck out a career-high eight in a no decision that St. Louis went on to win 5-2.

Adams has been assigned uniform No. 15.  He and Muñoz will be eligible to play in tonight’s game.
