Late Rally Just Short As Memphis Falls To Omaha

OMAHA, Nebraska – The Memphis Redbirds (58-35) dropped a pitcher’s duel to the Omaha Storm Chasers (Royals) 1-0, Saturday night at Werner Park in Omaha, Neb. The ‘Birds started to rally in the ninth, putting two men on, but couldn’t complete the comeback.

Memphis starter Chris Ellis took the loss despite pitching seven innings of one-run ball. The righty had one of his best starts of the season with Memphis, allowing just five hits and two walks, while striking out five batters.

The ‘Birds managed just four hits before the ninth inning, and finished the night with six hits. The team went 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position in the game. Carson Kelly  (1-for-4), Patrick Wisdom (1-for-3), Adolis Garcia (2-for-4), Wilfredo Tovar (1-for-3), and Edmundo Sosa (1-for-3) were the only Redbirds with hits.

Andrew Morales pitched one scoreless inning of relief, allowing a hit. Omaha starter Trevor Oaks continued his season dominance, lowering his PCL-best ERA to 1.84 on the season.
