Rascals Route Otters in Series Finale

EVANSVILLE, IN–The River City Rascals finished off their series with the Evansville Otters with a 9-4 victory in the series finale from Bosse Field on Sunday afternoon. The Rascals jumped out to the 8-0 lead and never looked back. Rascals starter Jonny Ortiz (7-2) pitched 5 1/3 scoreless innings in the win, allowing three hits, three walks and striking out three in the process.

After Paul Kronenfeld hit a lead-off double in the second inning, Zach Lavy brought him home on a groundout to give the Rascals the early lead. They made it 3-0 on run-scoring singles from Gage West and JD Hearn in the fifth, and took a 5-0 lead on Braxton Martinez’s two-run homer in the sixth. The Rascals got three runs in the seventh on an RBI double from Hearn and a two-run moonshot to left from Trevor Achenbach.

After the Otters got on the board in the bottom of the seventh, Hearn added another run for the Rascals on a fielder’s choice RBI in the top of the eight. The Otters got and RBI double from Carlos Castro and an RBI single from Hunter Cullen in the bottom of the eighth to make it 9-3 and scored their fourth run on a double play ball in the ninth.

Randy Wynne (8-9) took the loss for the Otters, allowing five runs in six innings.

The Rascals (48-42) are off Monday, and kick-off a six-game homestand to close out the regular season on Tuesday night against the Southern Illinois Miners, with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 pm CT from CarShield Field.
