Hargrove Enjoys Career Night, Billikens Down Southern Indiana 75-63

by Brian Kunderman
Terrence Hargrove Jr. matched his career high of 27 points and grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds to lead Saint Louis to a 75-63 victory over Southern Indiana at Chaifetz Arena Monday night in the season opener for both teams.
Hargrove was 4-of-6 from 3-point range and 7-of-8 from the foul line. He collected four offensive rebounds and committed just one turnover in 28 minutes.
Hargrove’s 27 points are the most scored by a Billiken in a season opener since the 2001-02 campaign, when Marque Perry poured in 27 against Southern Illinois.
Larry Hughes II was 3-of-6 from beyond the arc and equaled his career high of 12 points. Tim Dalger had seven rebounds, and Gibson Jimerson tallied a game-high five assists.
SLU outscored USI 18-5 from the free throw line and earned a 16-4 advantage in second-chance points. The Billikens committed only six turnovers.
A 7-0 spurt covering just over a minute gave Saint Louis its first double-digit lead, 26-15. The Billikens went on to lead by as many as 14 points before settling for a 37-25 cushion at intermission.
SLU began the second half 8-of-12 from the field, outscoring USI 20-8 to establish its largest lead, 57-33, at the 13:18 mark. The final margin of 12 was as close as the visitors would get.

The Billikens return to the Chaifetz Arena hardwood Wednesday, Nov. 8, hosting Lincoln at 7 p.m.
