Rom dominates former team, continues hot start to Memphis career

MEMPHIS, TN – The Memphis Redbirds began a six-game homestand with a 5-0 win over the Norfolk Tides at AutoZone Park on Tuesday night.

Drew Rom (9-6) carried his dominant performance in his Redbirds debut last week into Tuesday night’s start. The left-handed pitcher tossed 6.0 shutout innings, allowed one hit and struck out eight batters. Rom has 18 strikeouts in 11.0 innings and allowed just one earned run since being acquired in a trade from Baltimore.

Memphis grabbed the lead in the bottom of the third innings on a shortstop Masyn Winn triple. The triple was Winn’s seventh of the season. Left fielder Matt Koperniak placed a ball in the gap with the bases loaded in the sixth inning to drive in a pair.

Second baseman Cesar Prieto extended his hit streak to 10 games with his fifth two-hit performance as a Redbird. Prieto went 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored. First baseman Juan Yepez also recorded a multi-hit effort with a 2-for-5 night.

The Redbirds (57-58) return to AutoZone Park on Wednesday, August 16 to continue a six-game homestand at 6:45p.m. CDT against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp. You can find more information on upcoming promotions at AutoZone Park here.
