The Aquadolls don’t need you to save them on “Far Far Away”

Up next from LA’s resident femme-punk royalty, The Aquadolls, comes “Far Far Away,” the final single before the June 2 release of their album Charmed (Enci Records). A slice of upbeat summer optimism, the song featuring production by Chris Szczech (The Goo Goo Dolls), is a call to arms for anyone looking to ferociously take back their independence. Fans will have a chance to hear this song live tonight at the band’s headline show at New York’s iconic Mercury Lounge – Stream.

In the single’s official video directed by longtime creative collaborator Jenna Houchin, the band is drenched in a retro malaise as they attempt to bust out of the norm – Watch.

Lead singer Melissa Brooks said, “’Far Far Away’ is a fairytale twist on the working class, discussing that the only person who can truly save you is yourself. Recorded by Chris Szcech, this up-tempo track features surfy guitar licks reminiscent of early Vampire Weekend and hand claps to ensure that anyone can clap and chant along to this modern self-love fairytale.”

Bassist Keilah Nina chimed in saying that this is, “A tune about struggling with work-life balance. The painful reality of getting trapped in the same 9-5 routine and feeling blocked or detached from personal growth, success, and/or love as a result. It’s also a tale of acceptance, sometimes you have to pull yourself out of the dirt, and that’s okay!”

So far off of their upcoming album, The Aquadolls have released singles “Beachy,” “Sneaky,” and “Burn Baby Burn.” Don’t let the relatable tales focused on love and relationships, heartbreak and longing for more fool you, The Aquadolls still are about having fun and showcasing humor in their lyrics. Charmed charts the growth in The Aquadolls’ sound, fusing elements of melodic ‘60s harmonies and ‘90s-driven crunchiness with a modern twist that ushered in a new era for them, and it serves as a strong representation of what they want to do.

In celebration of their upcoming album, The Aquadolls are currently out on a headline North American Spring Fling tour, running from coast to coast from late April through early June. The tour has made stops at Shaky Knees in Atlanta, sees the band playing Mercury Lounge in New York tonight, and features an album release show on June 2 at the Moroccan Lounge in Los Angeles. ABOUT THE AQUADOLLS

When Melissa Brooks formed The Aquadolls 10 years ago, it served as an outlet for her to channel her angst. In high school, she was bullied by her peers, and music served as a therapeutic way to express herself in a positive way. Following the formation of the bedroom project, Brooks — who serves as the band’s primary singer, songwriter and guitarist — released the Free EP in 2012 and her debut album, Stoked on You in 2013. After cycling through musicians, Brooks joined forces with bassist Keilah Nina and drummer Jacqueline Proctor and things fell into place. The trio released their sophomore album, The Dream and Deception, in 2018.

Once their current lineup solidified around the release of The Dream and Deception, The Aquadolls made serious moves. They’ve performed with artists including Kate Nash, Pennywise and Jimmy Eat World, and have featured on major festival lineups like Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits, Warped Tour and a pair of appearances at Eddie Vedder’s Ohana Festival. The Los Angeles-based band spent the summer of ’22 on the road with Incubus and Sublime with Rome.
