ST. LOUIS AMBUSH HOST MILWAUKEE SATURDAY

by St. Louis Ambush

The St. Louis Ambush square off with the Milwaukee Wave this Saturday, January 7, 2023 at 7:05 p.m. CST at The Family Arena.

The Ambush come into Saturday’s game with a 2-3-1 record, while Milwaukee is enjoying a great start to their season at 3-0-1. The match is the second of six scheduled contests between St. Louis and Milwaukee during the 2022-23 regular season. The Wave won the first encounter by the score of 7-3 on December 10 at the UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena. The Ambush hope to break a two-game losing streak and the Wave will be seeking their third consecutive win.

Milwaukee comes to town with a solid roster headlined by reigning MASL MVP Ian Bennett, who, at 39 years of age, shows no signs of slowing down. Bennett scored five goals in his last game on December 31 against Utica. He has scored in his last 34 games played (30 regular season and four postseason), has seven goals and two assists in his last three games played, leads the league in points per game average, power play goals, is tied in game-winning goals and is second in goals scored.

Ahead of this weekend’s action, the Ambush announced the signing of more local talent this week, forward Anthony Brown and defender Tim Menzel. Brown is a native of Belleville, Illinois who played high school soccer at Belleville West and collegiate soccer at St. Louis University. He spent time with semi-pro teams Club Athletico St. Louis (NPSL) and Des Moines Menace (USL League Two). Menzel hails from Webster Groves, where he played high school soccer before moving on to a collegiate career at Fontbonne University. He played semi-pro soccer locally for FC Martisa.

Ambush co-owner, General Manager and Head Coach Jeff Locker said, “The St. Louis area has always had a rich heritage of soccer talent and previous St. Louis professional indoor teams have featured some of the best of that talent. We hope to continue finding local players who will helps us build on that heritage.”

After Saturday’s contest, the Ambush will take to the road when they visit Utica City FC on Sunday, January 15 at 1:05 p.m. CST. The next Ambush home game is Friday, January 20, 2023 when the cross-state rival Kansas City Comets invade The Family Arena for a 7:35 p.m. CST affair.
