Cardinals Provide Grants To Organizations That Support Veterans

by St. Louis Cardinals

In honor of Veterans Day, Cardinals Care, the charitable arm of the St. Louis Cardinals, has issued $9,000 in grants to support local non-profit organizations that serve veterans. The Kaufman FundMissouri Veterans Endeavor, and the St. Louis Area Foodbank will each receive funds to further their support of local veterans.

“We’re proud to support these organizations that serve the brave men and women who sacrificed so much to serve our country,” said Michael Hall, Vice President of Community Relations & Executive Director of Cardinals Care.

The Kaufman Fund supports St Louis area Veterans and their children who are at risk of abuse or poverty, and in need of food, shelter, clothing, and medical care.  The grant will fund the Trees for Vets program to provide free Christmas trees and stands to veterans and their families. Since this program began, with the support of several businesses, over 2,000 trees have been given to deserving families.

“The Kaufman Fund is pleased to be working with the St Louis Baseball Cardinals Club to help our area Veterans in need of life’s basic necessities. When the Cardinals donate to The Kaufman Fund they are helping St Louis area Veterans make their Christmas brighter by supplying trees,” The Kaufman Fund shared.

Missouri Veterans Endeavor is a long term supportive Veteran Community that provides Veterans and their family members who are experiencing homelessness with permanent housing, social work-based case management services, holistic therapeutic services, attachment to needed resources in the community, and social activities and engagement with the greater St. Louis Community.  The grant will be used to provide Veterans and their family members with a Veterans Day Picnic, and to purchase Holiday Gifts for each Veteran and their family member.

“The team and Veterans at MOVE are very appreciative of the ongoing engagement, promotion of awareness, and the support that the St. Louis Cardinals have offered us since opening our doors in October 2011,” said William A. Wallace, President & Executive Director of Missouri Veterans Endeavor.

The St. Louis Area Foodbank builds stronger communities by empowering people with food and hope. The grant will fund meals for 11,000 Veterans, active military and their families.

“The St. Louis Area Foodbank is honored to partner with Cardinals Care as we support our veterans that have sacrificed so much for our great nation. From our most recent hunger study veterans represent 18% of the population we serve. We are humbled to strengthen and support these heroes and their families, on Veterans Day and throughout the year,” said Meredith Knopp St. Louis Area Foodbank President and CEO and US Army Veteran.
