Second baseman Nolan Gorman was the star of the show, drilling his first two home runs of the 2022 season. His second blast, in his final at-bat of the game, made the score 6-3 and forced a save situation for Gwinnett.

Memphis battled late, putting two runners on base before an out was recorded in the bottom of the ninth. Center fielder Scott Hurst drew a leadoff walk followed by a 14-pitch titanic struggle between right fielder Clint Coulter and Gwinnett reliever Michael Tonkin, resulting in a walk.

With the tying run at the plate with no outs, the Redbirds could not get another man on base, dropping the final game of the six-game series.

Memphis (3-3) travels to Charlotte for the first road trip of the season to take on the Charlotte Knights (3-3) in a six-game series. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 5:35 CT on Tuesday, April 12.

The Redbirds return to AutoZone Park on Tuesday, April 19 to begin a six-game homestand against the Omaha Storm Chasers.
