St. Louis Surge Set For Saturday’s Home Game

by Brian Ledford

After a successful road trip to Michigan this past weekend, the St. Louis Surge women’s professional basketball franchise returns to their home court this Saturday.

The Surge (5-0) hosts the Chicago Lady Steam at 6:05 p.m. at Fontbonne University’s Mabee Gymnasium (6800 Wydown Blvd, Clayton, MO).

St. Louis picked up an 82-69 victory over the Flint Monarchs Saturday afternoon and concluded the Great Lakes State sweep with Sunday’s 93-67 triumph over the Detroit Dodgers.

The weekend trek pushed the local rep of the Global Women’s Basketball Association (GWBA) to the current top spot of the league’s four-team hierarchy with a 4-0 sanctioned record. Defending GWBA champ Wisconsin Glo sits in second place with a 3-1 GWBA mark.

Saturday’s unsanctioned contest versus Chicago will be the squad’s lone home game in July. The two-time national champs finish their regular season August 7-8 against the aforementioned Detroit teams.

Tickets are $15-$20 and the venue has opened up to 100% capacity, so walk-up purchases are welcomed. For more information, go to the team’s website.
