Gateway Held Silent Late In 2-1 Loss To Thunderbolts

by James Caldwell

Gateway had an early lead, but a key Windy City hit in the 5th and lights out relief from Thunderbolts LHP Miguel Ausua closed the door in a 2-1 Grizzlies loss Wednesday night.

In the bottom of the 2nd, Justin Jones started the scoring with a sacrifice fly. With runners on the corners, Jones skied a fly ball to center that was deep enough for Jose Rosario to cruise home and put Gateway in front 1-0.

Following another two scoreless frames, however, Windy City answered back in the 5th. RF Daniel Robinson smacked a two-out, two-run double to flip the script and put the Thunderbolts in front 2-1.

Asuna entered in relief for the Thunderbolts in the 7th inning, immediately rattling off a strikeout. He finished with five while retiring all nine Grizzlies in order to earn the save.

Windy City RHP Tyler Thornton (2-0) earned the win and kept his ERA perfect. He only allowed two hits and a lone unearned run. Grizzlies LHP Sebastian Kessay (0-1) took the loss after surrendering the decisive double to Robinson.

The Grizzlies will look to split the two game series with the Thunderbolts on Thursday night. First pitch is set for 6:45 p.m. and you can listen live on YO Radio starting with the Budweiser Pregame Show at 6:30 p.m.
