When the Men’s Roller Derby World Cup comes to the Gateway City next summer, it will contain a lot of local flavor on the flat-track.
On Sunday, USA Men’s Roller Derby revealed their charter for the 2020 team and eight athletes from St. Louis-based GateKeepers Roller Derby were selected to the 20-skater roster.
The global showdown takes place July 9-12, 2020 at Queeny Park in Ballwin, Missouri at the Greensfelder Recreational Complex and the adjacent Midwest Sport Hockey facility. Overall, 23 countries will be represented at the event.
After an intense multi-day tryout in Los Angeles, California in early November, those that made the final cut were notified and the official line-up was publicly revealed.
The GateKeepers who will represent USA – Men’s Roller Derby are (in alphabetical order):
Joshua “Monster Jam” Amick
Shane Bower
Michael “The Saint” Christopher
Christopher “Quadratic Evasion” Evrard
Brian “Spin Diesel” McAfee
Scott “Magnum” Meyer
Kyle Stark
Jake “Bled Zeppelin” Woodward
All eight skaters are members of the GateKeepers primary travel team that won their fifth consecutive Men’s Roller Derby Association (MRDA) title last month.
GKRD bench coach Downtown Dallis was also selected as a bench coach for the team.
This will be Meyer’s fourth stint with the team while McAfee and Woodward will compete in their respective third cycles.
USA – Men’s Roller Derby won their third consecutive World Cup in Barcelona, Spain on July 2018.
