by Brian Ledford

The Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) released its calculated rankings of international leagues Friday and the two primary travel squads featured at archcitysports.com retained Top 40 status for the fifth straight month.

Out of the 228 international leagues eligible for rank, St. Louis-based Arch Rival Roller Girls held steady at #23 while St. Charles-based St. Chux Derby Chix climbed two positions to #36.

Calculated rankings are determined mathematically utilizing an algorithm that incorporates strength of opponent and game outcomes. The Top 40 teams listed at the end of the June rankings period are eligible for the WFTDA Division 1 playoffs, scheduled for Fall 2015.

Idle since last post-season, Arch Rival (0-0) has placed within the WFTDA’s Top 30 since the governing body adopted its method of rankings in 2013.

St. Chux (1-2) launched its season last weekend at the “How The West Was Won” invitational in Chandler, AZ. At the event, the Pack In Black netted a victory over #52 Brewcity while suffering setbacks to #35 Arizona and #53 Calgary. The outcomes of SCDC’s trip were not factored into the latest set of rankings.

Both leagues host #31 Nashville next weekend. St. Chux plays the Music City All-Stars Saturday, March 21 at Matteson Square Garden in St. Peters while Arch Rival hosts the Tennesseans in a “closed to the public game” at its practice facility in South St. Louis the next morning.
