Memphis Redbirds’ shortstop Paul DeJong was named the International League Player of the Week for the week of July 11-17. It is DeJong’s first Interntional League recognition of his career and the first time a Redbirds’ position player has been honored this season.

DeJong had a scorching week against the Nashville Sounds, slashing .364/.500/.773 with three home runs, 11 RBIs and seven runs scored. Each of DeJong’s eight hits over the six-game series brought in a run, while his three home runs and 11 RBIs paced the International League.

Since joining Memphis on May 12, DeJong leads the IL with 47 RBIs while his 14 home runs are tied second most.

DeJong becomes the third Redbird honored by the International League this season. Johan Oviedo and Matthew Liberatore were named IL Pitchers of the Week in back-to-back weeks from April 18 – 24 and April 25 – May 1.

The Redbirds return to AutoZone Park on Friday, July 22 for a three-game weekend set against the Gwinnett Stripers before welcoming in the Norfolk Tides for a six-game series next Tuesday, July 27. Fans can visit memphisredbirds.com or call 901-721-6000 for more information or to purchase tickets.
