Redbirds lose second straight to first place Sounds

Memphis batters strike out season-high tying 15 times

The Memphis Redbirds dropped game five of a six-game series against the Nashville Sounds on Saturday night at AutoZone Park by a final score of 5-3. 

 

Memphis got out on top early with an Irving Lopez RBI to bring home Cory Spangenberg in the bottom of the second inning. The Redbirds next crossed home in the fourth, when catcher Pedro Pages registered his first Triple-A RBI, a sacrifice fly to bring home right fielder Conner Capel. Nashville would then  

 

For the second time this season, Memphis batters struck out a season-high 15 times on Saturday night. The Redbirds offense attempted to rally back in the ninth inning, an RBI single from third baseman Clint Coulter brought the tying run to the plate. 

 

Reliever Zach McAllister made his league-leading 27th appearance for Memphis, tossing 2.0 innings of scoreless baseball with a season-high tying four strikeouts. 

 

The Memphis Redbirds (37-28) will return home to AutoZone Park to finish out a six-game series and the 12-game homestand against the International League West leading Nashville Sounds on Sunday, June 19 for a 2:05 p.m. CDT first pitch.
