Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Teaser Trailer Debuts!

by Nick Stucker

The teaser trailer for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, a direct sequel to 2019’s critically acclaimed Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, dropped yesterday to everyone’s pleasant surprise. And while not much has been revealed or said, a lot was still revealed in the trailer itself.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will be a direct follow up to its highly successful predecessor and features the return of now fully fledged Jedi Knight Cal Kestis (portrayed by Cameron Monaghan) and his amazingly awesome droid companion BD-01. In the trailer we see the player’s ship, Stinger Mantis, looking in disarray and having seen better days and none other than the Grand Inquisitor himself, who also made his live-action feature film/television debut on Friday in the highly anticipated Star Wars Series, Obi-Wan Kenobi. What his role is in Survivor remains to be known, however, it’s probably safe to bet that he’ll be at least one, if not the lead, big bad guy since you the player systematically offed his inquisitors in the first title, Fallen Order.

Fallen Order takes place roughly five years after Episode III, placing it not too far off from the Obi-Wan Kenobi series. That being said, many are wondering when exactly Survivor will take place; what is known, at least from the trailer, Survivor will take place before Episode IV with the Grand Inquisitor being featured prominently in the trailer, and given the fact he ultimately dies in the series Star Wars series Rebels. This allows 15 years of time Survivor could play around with (20 years span between Episode III and Episode IV). This will allow for all sorts of trouble Cal Kestis can get himself into and for the writers of the game to develop a rich and engaging story; however, on the flip side, with established cannon series’ such as Rebels and Andor (upcoming Star Wars series of the Rogue One character) and now the Obi-Wan Kenobi series (which takes place 10 years after Episode III), a lot of writing and creative freedom is looking to be getting slim, which is the fear that I have for this upcoming title and has the potential of falling short compared to its predecessor.

Other than what was revealed in the trailer, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is slated for a 2023 release.

And don’t forget to catch the new Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi two episode premiere, now available for streaming on Disney Plus!
