No. 11 Billikens Top Dayton 2-0, Remain Unbeaten on Season

by Brian Kunderman

No. 11 Saint Louis received goals from Simon Becher and Isaiah Parker in a 2-0 Billiken victory over Dayton Saturday night at Hermann Stadium.

The Billikens remain unbeaten on the year at 10-0-3 overall and maintain their first-place standing in the A-10 with a 6-0 record. Dayton falls to 5-7-2 overall and 2-3 in the league.

Saint Louis, which has now won seven in a row, continues its longest unbeaten streak (13 games) to start a season since the 1971 squad began the year 17-0. It’s SLU’s longest unbeaten streak at any point in a season since the 1991 Bills went 16 games without a loss (14-0-2). SLU is 6-0 in the A-10 for the second time (2016) since joining the league in 2005.

Becher put the Billikens on the board with a goal in the eighth minute. Parker made a hard run up the left flank before centering to Becher inside the six. Becher touched it with his right foot and sent it just inside the far post for his ninth goal of the season. He has now scored in seven straight games.

The score remained 1-0 until the 84th minute when Parker scored directly off a corner kick. He curled the ball over the stretched-out arms of the Dayton goalkeeper to give SLU the 2-0 final margin.

SLU goalkeeper Patrick Schulte was sharp in goal, making three saves and defending many Dayton crosses to secure his sixth shutout of the season.

The Billikens managed a 13-7 advantage in shots and a 6-3 edge in corner kicks.

SLU resumes A-10 action on Saturday, Oct. 23, when they travel to face George Washington for a noon (CT) kickoff.
