SAUGET, Ill. – The Gateway Grizzlies snapped a four-game winning streak on Saturday night, dropping their second meeting of the weekend against the Evansville Otters 3-1 at GCS Credit Union Ballpark.
Evansville scored rather quietly in the top of the second inning. With the bases loaded and one out, Andrew Penner drew a walk to plate the first run. Penner delivered again in the fourth inning, as he roped an RBI double to bring the Otters lead to 2-0.
Later, in the top of the sixth inning, Andretty Cordero led off the inning with a solo shot down the line in right, padding the Otters edge to 3-0.
Gateway got some late life with a Jay Prather solo home run in the bottom of the ninth, but that was all the offense could muster.
Grizzlies RHP Matt Mulhearn (0-1) took the loss in his first professional decision after surrendering all three Otters runs. Evansville LHP Braden Scott (3-2) earned the win with 7.2 scoreless innings, allowing just three Gateway hits.
The Grizzlies and Otters wrap up the weekend series with a rubber match on Sunday. First pitch at GCS Credit Union Ballpark is set for 5:45 p.m and you can listen live on YO Radio or watch on Frontier League TV. Coverage begins with the Budweiser Pregame Show at 5:30 p.m.
