Grizzlies Down Crushers 9-4 Behind Explosive Middle Innings

SAUGET, Ill. – Gateway’s bats racked up runs in rapid succession on Wednesday night, doing enough damage to handily down the Lake Erie Crushers 9-4 at GCS Credit Union Ballpark.

It all started in the bottom of the third. Ty Moore and Andres Regnault each added an RBI single whie Jay Prather followed by bringing another runner home on a fielder’s choice.

Already ahead 3-0 after three innings, Gateway exploded for five more in the bottom of the fourth. Moore and Regnault hit RBI singles again, Prather ripped an RBI double and Chase Vallot brought home Prather after reaching on an error to pad the lead to 8-0. Gateway’s final run came in the bottom of the fifth on a Regnault sacrifice fly.

The only scoring play for the Crushers came in the top of the sixth, when Javier Betancourt hit a grand slam to make the margin 9-4 Grizzlies.

Gateway RHP Jorge Tavarez (3-3) earned the victory with five scoreless, four-hit innings. Lake Erie RHP Jake Pilarski (1-2) took the loss after surrendering eight runs—six of which were earned—in just 3.2 innings.

The Grizzlies look to earn their first sweep of the season against the Crushers on Thursday night. First pitch at GCS Credit Union Ballpark is set for 6:45 p.m and you can listen live on YO Radio or watch on Frontier League TV. Coverage begins with the Budweiser Pregame Show at 6:30 p.m.
