Grizzlies Beaten 12-6 By Y’alls In Series Finale

by

SAUGET, Ill. – The Gateway Grizzlies took a tough loss in their rubber match with the Florence Y’alls on Sunday, ending the night on the wrong end of a 12-6 blowout at GCS Credit Union Ballpark.

The two teams exchanged runs in the first inning, ending tied 1-1 after Chad Sedio hit a sacrifice fly for Florence and Andres Regnault brought in a run on a double play ball for Gateway.

After that, however, the Y’alls offense kicked into high gear. The visiting squad scored three runs in each of the third and fourth innings, two in the fifth and sixth innings, and one more in the seventh.

The Grizzlies did respond for some late runs to cut away at the deficit. Dustin Woodcock roped a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning to cut the deficit to 12-3. One inning later, Connor Owings went yard for his first 2021 home run and plated three to make it 12-6. That, though, was all Gateway could muster.

Grizzlies RHP Carlos Vega (3-1) took the loss in his first start in almost a month, giving up seven earned runs in four innings.. Y’alls RHP Johnathon Tripp (2-0) earned the win in his lone start to date of 2021, being used by Florence almost exclusively as a reliever.
