Grizzlies Down Miners 3-2 In Ten Innings

by

MARION, Ill. – The Gateway Grizzlies won a nailbiter in extras, taking down the Southern Illinois Miners 3-2 in 10 innings on Tuesday night. This marks a three-game winning streak for Gateway.

The Grizzlies struck first in the top of the fourth, when Chase Vallot clobbered a solo home run to right center. In the meantime, starting RHP Christian Camacho was dealing, ending his six innings of work with a career-high seven strikeouts.

It looked like the rookie would escape without allowing a run, but that changed near the end of his night. Gianfranco Wawoe plated Carson Bartels on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of  the 6th to even the score 1-1.

The squads then went tit-for-tat in the seventh, with Nick Rotola adding an RBI single for Gateway while Southern Illinois’ Luke Mangieri led off the bottom of the inning with a solo shot of his own.

The game remained tied 2-2 until the 10th, when Justin Jones delivered an RBI single to give Gateway the decisive 3-2 lead.

Grizzlies RHP Carlos Vega (1-2) earned his first win of the season with a clean ninth inning while Miners RHP Joey Pulido (1-2) got pegged with the loss. RHP Geoffrey Bramblett (3) kept the runner on second base from scoring in the bottom of the 10th to close out the victory and earn his third save

Gateway looks to extend its winning streak to four games tomorrow in game two against the Southern Illinois Miners. First pitch at Rent One Park is set for 7:05 p.m and you can listen live on YO Radio or watch on Frontier League TV. Coverage begins with the Budweiser Pregame Show at 6:50 p.m.
