Blues rock shredder Mike Zito in town this weekend with an all-star line up for a Tribute to Chuck Berry

by Danya Artimisi

St. Louis’ own, Mike Zito, best known for his seemingly effortless and bone crushing blues licks, will be in town performing a Tribute to Chuck Berry at the Pageant, this Saturday, May 8th.  Alongside him, he brings some of the Blues world’s most notable axe masters with which to share the stage.  The show will feature Charlie Berry III, Albert Castiglia, Joanna Connor, Tony Campanella, and Dave Kalz.

Zito’s own Big Blues Band is a group of loyal comrades who’ve played with him for the last several years, including: Matthew Johnson – drums; Doug Byrkit – bass guitar; Lewis Stephens – piano, organ; Zach Zito – acoustic guitar; and Lisa Andersen – backing vocals; Eric Demmer – saxophone; and Fernando Castillo – trumpet.

Now, it goes without saying that the Pandemic took a sizeable toll on everyone without discrimination.  Sure, it grounded our most beloved music makers, but Zito capitalized on the down time by writing and recording his upcoming release, Resurrection, stating that, “After the year we have had on planet Earth, I believe we all need a rebirth.”

Resurrection is an album of feelings, emotions, and is very personal. The title track is how I once almost lost my love, but it came back stronger than ever. I have had this song in me for years, but it only makes sense now to share it with the world. After the year we have had on planet Earth, I believe we all need a rebirth. This rebirth has given me an opportunity to be who I want to be musically and artistically.”

Resurrection will hit shelves  on July 16th.
