Cardinals Trade For Johan Quezada

by Mick Lite

The St. Louis Cardinals have acquired right-handed pitcher Johan Quezada from the Philadelphia Phillies for cash considerations.

Quezada made his Major League debut as a Marlin last season, giving up three runs over three relief appearances. His fastball averaged 97 mph, paired with a slider that sat at 87.2 mph.

In 116 appearances across six seasons in the minor leagues, he was 15-8 with 16 saves and a 4.05 ERA, striking out 9.1 batters per nine innings.

The Cardinals’ bullpen was a top 10 unit in 2020, and has a lot of returning faces. Quezada could possibly compete for one of the last open spots, but those roles will be more clear after what is decided with the fifth-starter role.

The Cardinals now have 38 players on their 40-man roster.
