Cardinals Sign Catcher Tyler Heineman

The Cardinals have announced that they have signed catcher Tyler Heineman to a minor-league contract with an invitation to spring training.

The switch-hitter has 62 MLB plate appearances with the Marlins and Giants, for just a .208/.288/.302 line. He did hit .287/.353/.430 over 5 seasons in Triple-A.

No, this isn’t Yadi’s replacement. It’s a depth move. I still think Yadi returns, but if not the team will most likely look for help with Knizner from outside the organization. Knizner is currently the only catcher on the 40-man roster after Molina and Wieters became free agents.
