Dexter Returns For Limited Series In Fall Of 2021

They have been talking about continuing Dexter Morgan’s story for the past 6-7 years now and the only thing that seemed to be holding it up from actually happening was Michael C. Hall’s busy schedule.

It’s now official! Dexter will return in the Fall of 2021 in a limited 10 episode series on Showtime.

The original series showrunner, Clyde Phillips, will return as well. He steered the show for the first four seasons before stepping down. Chip Johannesen from 24 took over in Season 5 and was replaced by Scott Buck from Iron Fist for seasons 6, 7, and 8.

Both fans and Hall were not happy with how the series ended with that final episode. Hall said he would’ve rather seen Dexter die in the end instead of the controversial ending it had that saw Dexter head off to live a life alone in exile as a lumberjack.

“Dexter is such a special series, both for its millions of fans and for Showtime, as this breakthrough show helped put our network on the map many years ago,” said Showtime Entertainment president Gary Levine. “We would only revisit this unique character if we could find a creative take that was truly worthy of the brilliant, original series. Well, I am happy to report that Clyde Phillips and Michael C. Hall have found it, and we can’t wait to shoot it and show it to the world.”

Clyde Phillips says that the show won’t undo anything, and nothing was a dream, but will hopefully make things right with regards to the last episode.
