What Young Players have Impressed in Spring Training so Far?

by
There is the obvious answer here that every Cardinals fan would answer unanimously.
Dylan Carlson
Though it has been very limited time, the start Carlson has gotten off to has been nothing short of incredible. Through 6 games so far, Carlson is hitting .500 and has a 1.397 OPS. While Carlson will probably be held down in Triple A to start the season, he is doing everything he can to make sure that when this happens, the front office will have to hear about it from the fans. While Carlson has been the talk of Spring Training so far, many other players have also impressed.
Kodi Whitley
Whitley has impressed throughout his career in the minors so far. His has a career ERA in the minors of 2.01 and so far in Spring Training he has looked very sharp. In two innings, Whitley has 5 strikeouts while only allowing one base runner. With more opportunities to come, Whitley has a chance to be a dark horse and win a job in the bullpen out of spring training.
Edmundo Sosa
Sosa is someone who came into Spring Training with a decent shot to make the team after proving what he is capable of in the minors. Sosa so far has impressed me more than anyone. Not only has he shown he is a capable hitter with some pop, Sosa has shown flashes of how special he could be as a fielder. While it is not likely that Sosa will get a starting job, it is very possible that he could turn into a super utility player that Tommy Edman did last year. While Edman is still in this role, and has the advantage of being able to play the outfield, Sosa has the advantage of being able to play a very good defensive shortstop and give the Cardinals the option of resting Paul Dejong more than last year.
Honorable Mention:
Nolan Gorman and Ivan Herrera are two of the Cardinals top prospects that are both performing very well this spring at a very young age. Both are hitting very well, and even while they have no chance at making the major league roster, they are doing a great job showing that they have the talent and getting fans excited for their future arrival in the big leagues.
