Jordan Goodwin scored 14 points and Terrence Hargrove Jr. added 11, but Saint Louis fell 73-59 to Duquesne Thursday night in the Atlantic 10 Conference opener for both teams.

The game was played at Robert Morris University as Duquesne’s A.J. Palumbo Center is undergoing renovation.

Goodwin added seven rebounds and three steals for the Billikens (11-3). Hargrove, who was 5-of-8 from the field, grabbed five rebounds including four on the offensive glass.

Hasahn French tallied eight points, a game-high 12 rebounds, five assists, three blocks and three steals. French’s assists and steals totals equaled his career highs. Tay Weaver connected on 3-of-6 from beyond the arc and finished with nine points.

Marcus Weathers and Tavian Dunn-Martin led Duquesne (11-2) with 26 and 21 points, respectively. Sincere Carry contributed 12 points and a game-high eight assists, while Michael Hughes registered a game-high seven blocks.

Saint Louis scored the game’s first five points and remained in front until Duquesne tied it at 22 with 2:22 left in the first half. A late 3-pointer gave the Dukes a 28-25 halftime lead.

Duquesne used a 9-0 spurt to post the first of two 13-point advantages, 44-31, with 13:33 to play. SLU drew to within four, 52-48, at the 7:04 mark with a 14-5 run in which five different players scored, and the Bills trailed just 54-50 with 5:51 remaining.

However, two consecutive 3-pointers ignited a 19-9 game-ending run for Duquesne.

The Billikens play their A-10 home opener Sunday, Jan. 5, against Massachusetts. Tip time is 3 p.m., and the game will be televised by NBC Sports Network.
